IBEW Poker Run Yields Sizable Donation (demoted January 21, 2012)
The IBEW Local 51 has been a long-term supporter of
Computer Banc and holds a Poker Run to benefit the organization
annually. This year's generous donation will be used to offset
Computer Banc's rent and enable the organization to continue to serve
Central Illinois' students.
Volunteers Needed to Support Expanding Production (demoted January 21, 2012)
As Computer Banc continues to grow and serve more
families, more volunteers are needed to help . The organization
is in the process of providing 100 refurbished systems to District 186
students through the United Way Venture Grant and has orders for over
100 additional systems outside of normal day-to-day distribution.
If you have a few hours of free time during the day Monday, Wednesday,
Friday, or Saturday or during the evening on Tuesdays, Computer Banc
needs you! There are many opportunities to help serve including
technical and non-technical jobs. Check out our volunteer page for more information or contact us to let us know you can help!
Springfield-Area Businesses Coordinating Employee Computer Donations (demoted January 21, 2012)
A number of area businesses and organizations (including Hanson
Engineering, Illinois National Bank, Levi Ray & Shoup, Catepillar
in Morton IL, Lincoln Land Community College, the University of
Illinois at Springfield, and Robert Morris College) are working with
Computer Banc this holiday season to ensure old computers are either
given new life or kept out the landfill. Most organizations are
accepting computer donations from their own employees at their place of
business prior to Computer Banc's scheduled pick-up time. If you
are getting a new computer during the upcoming season, ask if your
employer will accept donations on behalf of Computer Banc or simply
bring your retired equipment to Computer Banc yourself! For more
information about donating a computer, feel free to view our Recycling Recommendations document or call our office at 217.528.9506.
Aesthetic Web Changes (demoted January 18, 2011)
You may notice a new look to our website -- one that looks
remarkable similar to our previous design. What you are seeing is
a stage in the process of a volunteer-driven re-design: the overall
design will remain the same (with the recycled drop-down menu at top),
but we may be changing colors and images as we embark on a long-term
quest to develop an official logo. Thank you to the volunteers
that keep our web presence and everything else we do moving forward!
11th
Anniversary Celebration Fundraiser Set for Thursday, Oct. 14 (demoted October 15, 2010)
This time last year Computer Banc hosted its 10th
Anniversary Celebration Breakfast at the Abundant Faith building on
Taylor. This year we would like to make the event bigger and better, so
we have moved it to the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in downtown
Springfield. Please join us to celebrate another year filled with
successes and swap stories with valued contributors and community
members.
The event will be held on Thursday, October 14th from
5-7 PM at 701 East Adams Street in Springfield. In addition to a host
of hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, the event will feature a drawing for
prizes including a like-new laptop computer, desktop computer, and
4-station computer lab. For more details, to register, or to sponsor a
table at the event, please see this year's flier.

Help
Computer Banc win a $10,000 Web Site Makeover (demoted August 25, 2010)
As a technology-based organization, you would think Computer Banc would
have no trouble keeping a web site professional, up-to-date, and
up-to-standards. The Achilles heel as always, however, is that
Computer Banc is a volunteer organization and any time spent on the web
site may be better spent preparing computers for those in
need. Fortunately, Computer Banc has been named one of the ten
finalists in the LRS Web Solutions Big Website Makeover competition. To
receive the grand prize, a new website worth $10,000, Computer Banc
needs to receive the most online votes by midnight on August 20. Please
support your community by voting one time per day, per email account
and urge your friends to do the same. (A banner link appears below).
Another
Record Year! (demoted June 30, 2010)
Thanks to the generous donations of equipment and
time, Computer Banc was able to send out over 600 computers in the
calendar year of 2009. With continued donations of computers and
monitors (as well as generous volunteer support) we look forward to
breaking that record again in 2010!
Re: Pepsi Refresh Grant (demoted June 1, 2010)
Computer Banc would like to thank those who supported us by voting in
the Pepsi Refresh competition. While our Computers for College
project was not funded during the month of March, we do intend to
re-apply for a later month with the support of other
organizations. Please watch this space to be notified when we
register again!
Please Support Our Program on Pepsi's Refresh Grant (demoted May 1, 2010)
Pepsi Refresh is a grant program where the public
chooses the grant recipients. Please log on to the website at http://www.refresheverything.com/computersforcollege
and vote for our new program: providing refurbished laptops to college
students. Without the support of grants like Pepsi's, we cannot afford
to refurbish laptops. The laptops we receive often come with
short-lived batteries and without power packs: both of which must be
replaced before we can give the computer to a college student in need.
To receive funding through this grant we must be one of the top ten
programs. You can contribute one vote to our program every day through
April 30th.
You
can also use the facebook link on the same page to share this program
with your friends. We need your help - please ask your friends to
support Computers for College too. With the support of you, your
friends, and their friends, we can win this grant and provide 350
computers to college students in the next year!

New Repair Policy
(demoted July 1, 2009)
Because Computer Banc is a volunteer-driven organization, we are
unable to provide unlimited service to the computers we share.
Starting January 1, Computer Banc will provide full service repair of
all systems provided for a period of 60 days from the date of issue.
At the end of the 60 days, the client will assume full responsibility
for maintenance of the computer. This policy supersedes all policies
or agreements made prior to this date.
