Computers for Families: Schools can help facilitate receipt of computers by families by contacting Computer Banc. Start on this page.
Computers for Schools: Schools are considered agencies when acquiring computers for labs or other uses. Start on our Agencies page.
How it Works
Computer Banc's mission is to provide children who are academically at-risk with computer access at home. As a secondary mission, we also provide technology to other not-for-profit organizations and schools. To serve schools, we have established a partnership program. This program helps to extend the referral and placement process to families in communities more than 40 miles from Springfield. Because this program is an extension of the program offered to families within 40 miles of Springfield, all of the qualifications and other information on our Families page
What
Computer Banc Provides
Computer
Banc will deliver 15 to 20 refurbished Pentium 4-class
computers to the
school, where the families will receive them. These computers are the
same as those described on our Families page and
include the same operating system, office suite, educational tools,
educational games, and text reader library.
What the
School Provides
The
partnering school provides a staff member to act as coordinator,
contact, and facilitator for the school local area portion of the
program. This person will perform the screening and enrollment
(following Computer Banc guidelines which will be provided) as well as
coordinating other aspects of the local program.
The school or
sponsoring organization also is required to pay Computer Banc for
delivery of the computer equipment. The charge is calculated at $0.485
per mile (round trip from Springfield) plus a $50
setup fee. An invoice or expense report will be submitted two weeks prior to delievery.
As Computer Banc's supply of computers always varies, the
partnering school may also be encouraged to solicit donations of computers
(local to the school) as a way of offsetting computers lost to the Springfield community.
What the
Families Provide
Each
family receiving a computer will be required to meet income guidelines.
In addition to meeting the guidelines outlined in the Families page, families will be required to contribute a family share fee ranging from $50 to $100 (as outlined on the same page).
Each family must attend the orientation session.
